The City of Mbombela is the capital of the Mpumalanga province and was selected as one of the hosting cities for the 2010 FIFA World Cup Soccer Tournament. Mbombela Stadium is a multi -purpose sport facility that was constructed as one of 5 new stadia for the 2010 FIFA World Cup Soccer Tournament. Four 2010 World Cup Matches took place at the stadium
The stadium has a seating capacity of 43 500. The main features of the stadium are the 18 majestic orange giraffe columns that support the roof structure and the black and white zebra skin patterned seating. The bright colours of the stadium create a vibrant and friendly atmosphere. The close proximity of the playing field to the general stands ensures an intimacy not often to be found at major international Stadia. Mbombela stadium is situated close to Kruger National Park just 30min drive.
The stadium offers parking for 4500 vehicles. A convenient park and ride is offered for all football matches and for selected large Rugby Matches.
