Mbombela is the capital of the Mpumalanga province and it was selected as one of the hosting cities for the 2010 FIFA World Cup Soccer Tournament. Mbombela Stadium is a multi purpose sport facility that was constructed as one of 5 new stadia for the 2010 FIFA World Cup Soccer Tournament.
The stadium has a seating capacity of 43 500. Four 2010 World Cup Matches took place at the stadium and more than 500 000 spectators have attended matches at the stadium, including the World Cup matches. The main feature of the stadium is the 18 orange giraffe columns that carry the roof structure and the black and white zebra skin patterned seating.
The stadium offers parking for 4500 vehicles or 13,500 spectators. Where an event exceeds 13,500 spectators, all spectators cannot park at the Stadium and the Park and Ride must transport numbers above 13,500.
